Day 6.

Today I had to do some shopping in Leens.
Coming back I passed the little church from Hornhuizen.


The typical yellow clocktower....


It is a very old church, firstly built in the Middle Ages.
Old tiles at the entrance...



Seeing these kind of floors I always have to think off all people who walked over it. 
All those years...all those steps..
The noise from wooden clogs and the sound of clicking heels.
Rich farmer and the poor worker walking behind eachother.
Weddings and Funerals...Happiness and Grief..and the usual Sunday service.

There was an old wooden panel painted in a beautiful green colour.

 

When I looked up I saw the big wooden chandelier made by Studio Job.


I am not a big fan of their work, but this contrast between the old and the new was simply beautiful.

    Wij van www.landmerken.nl vinden uw foto van de gekleurde gebreide stenen prachtig! Fijn ook dat u Hornhuizen zo mooi vind, daar doen we het voor. Wellicht een vreemde vraag, maar we vinden uw plaat zo prachtig dat we hem graag zouden willen gebruiken voor promotiemateriaal...zou dat mogelijk zijn? info@landmerken.nl

About Dutch Fishermans Ganseys..and a bit More..

In my previous post I promised to write about the just released book about Dutch Fisherman's Ganseys. Written by Stella Ruhe . In Dutch the title is:  Visserstruien uit 40 Nederlandse vissersplaatsen. There is an English translation with the title:  Dutch traditional ganseys. Sweaters from 40 vilages. (I couln't find it on Amazon, but there are some book(web)shops in Holland who also deliver all around the world.) For many years I had on my bookshelve the only book on Dutch Fisherman's ganseys. Written in 1983 by Henriëtte van der Klift-Tellingen. The book is printed in black and white, has many pictures from beautifulganseys in it, and it tells the history behind them. It is a good book, but the new book is better and more interesting. (but more about that book later in this post) I have never made a gansey for myself, but I have always been attracted to them.  Dutch ganseys (and the same is for English one's) tell a history from fishermen

Crushed by Jean Paul Gaultier....

Jean Paul Gaultier ..  My Hero when I studied Fashion at Art College. I remember buying the magazine Marie Claire Bis every season.. And in the where... The most spectaculair Desi gns by him.  This afternoon I found a map full of photo's with his designs from the time I studied Fashion Design. Combinations no one ever dreamed off.. Chiffon and lace Aprons... Old Models... Amazing adverts.. Guess he was -and still is- a big inspiration for Fashion students.. I remember that we had to make an illustration with silk paper and I used one of his designs. I have always kept it. At the moment De Kunsthal in Rotterdam shows the exhibition:  The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk I went yesterday.. I had doubts ofcourse because Bram is so weak.. But the nurses told me to go.. Neighbours took care.. Jochum came and stayed the whole afternoon..
