Meeting up with The Boys....But first something Important...

Just before I had the plan of writing a blog about the Great Meeting Up with Arne & Carlos (the 2 famous Julekuler-Boys from Norway) we got a telephonecall from our doctor. The results from Bram's bloodtests show that he has the Lyme Disease and that his Vitamin D is very Low. That might explain a lot from his current situation. Tomorrow we have an appointment in the Radboud Hospital in Nijmegen - we had asked for a fresh vieuw on things last week and got a very quick appointment - and this bloodtest- result might speed up the things. I know it can't be cured, but hopefully they can do something so that might feel a bit better than he is now..

Relief in a way, but I suddenly felt so out of balance this afternoon. Tears were running and I guess it is a reaction on all the months of uncertainty and the frustration that nothing was found.

But the title of this blog also is: Meeting up with The Boys..and by "Boys" I mean: Arne & Carlos. They have started the big kniting-trend: JuleKuler..and their Book looks so inviting to start knitting....It is a Big Hit all around the Globe...

Last Sunday I first met up in Amsterdam with my Knittingfriends Yvonne, Dagmar and Sandra for coffee and a delicious Lemon Tartelette at Gebr. Niemeijer.Thereafter we went to the Departmentstore "De Bijenkorf" to met up with Arne & Carlos for booksigning and knitting ofcourse.
We have had a very funny afternoon. I guess it was expected that not many people would come, but the reality was that it was very busy. We immediately took a big table, started knitting, talking and laughing.
We more or less felt kind of Groupies. After a while they came to our table and we found out that they are really very nice anbd friendly.
My book was signed...
We saw them knitting....
They showed the latest Design for World Aids Day...
We knitted ofcourse...
We saw them talking...behind a Huge JuleKuluer
I saw the bag and asked how I could purchase one....
I gave them my adress and they promised me to send one...
But alsmost at the end...I got the one from Arne...
A bit of Jealousy appeared....I can imagine...
And NO...this one is NOT FOR SALE.
I donated 3 Balls for Serious Request and I hope they make a lot of Money...

So.. WE HAD A BALL!!!!
And more Balls will come....

    Nou, nou, nou, Jan, wat een uitslag voor Bram. Het is goed dat het een naam heeft, maar ik snap dat je even knapte. Sterkte, sterkte, knuf.
    En wat hadden we het leuk, he, zondag?! Ik heb er ook al weer drie af sinds zondag. Belachelijk.

    Allereerst: O Jan, wat geweldig dat er eindelijk na maanden onzekerheid en onduidelijkheid iets gevonden is! Ik hoop zo dat met de juiste medicatie, vitamine toevoegingen en evt andere therapieën Bram weer aansterkt en dat zijn kwaliteit van leven, net als de jouwe verbeteterd. Ik gun het jullie zo enorm!!

    En dan: Bedankt voor je prachtige verslag. Zalig om te zien en te lezen!! Net of ik er een beetje bij was. Lachen, ik had uit mezelf grote ballen gemaakt, en zie nu dat meer mensen op het idee zijn gekomen. En de tas.............zo mooi en origineel.......hij is je zo gegund!!
    Leuk dat je met je breivriendinnen was, gezellige groep!

    Eindelijk iets duidelijkheid voor jullie, nu nog onzekerheid over herstel... Heel veel sterkte, èn goeds gewenst!!
    Gelukkig dat je ook momenten hebt als deze, samen met aardige en lieve mensen..

About Dutch Fishermans Ganseys..and a bit More..

In my previous post I promised to write about the just released book about Dutch Fisherman's Ganseys. Written by Stella Ruhe . In Dutch the title is:  Visserstruien uit 40 Nederlandse vissersplaatsen. There is an English translation with the title:  Dutch traditional ganseys. Sweaters from 40 vilages. (I couln't find it on Amazon, but there are some book(web)shops in Holland who also deliver all around the world.) For many years I had on my bookshelve the only book on Dutch Fisherman's ganseys. Written in 1983 by Henriëtte van der Klift-Tellingen. The book is printed in black and white, has many pictures from beautifulganseys in it, and it tells the history behind them. It is a good book, but the new book is better and more interesting. (but more about that book later in this post) I have never made a gansey for myself, but I have always been attracted to them.  Dutch ganseys (and the same is for English one's) tell a history from fishermen

Crushed by Jean Paul Gaultier....

Jean Paul Gaultier ..  My Hero when I studied Fashion at Art College. I remember buying the magazine Marie Claire Bis every season.. And in the where... The most spectaculair Desi gns by him.  This afternoon I found a map full of photo's with his designs from the time I studied Fashion Design. Combinations no one ever dreamed off.. Chiffon and lace Aprons... Old Models... Amazing adverts.. Guess he was -and still is- a big inspiration for Fashion students.. I remember that we had to make an illustration with silk paper and I used one of his designs. I have always kept it. At the moment De Kunsthal in Rotterdam shows the exhibition:  The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk I went yesterday.. I had doubts ofcourse because Bram is so weak.. But the nurses told me to go.. Neighbours took care.. Jochum came and stayed the whole afternoon..
