Simple Pleasure 4.

Nothing better than a "Dip in the Atlantic". I always feel that it cleans body and soul. Esspecially in the bay at Rossadiliks where hardly anyone swims. Whenever I tell anyone here that I like to swim there the answer is always..but the water is so cold. Are  you wearing a wetsuit? Ofcourse not is my vast reply.

I must admit: the water has not a tropical temperature. It is fresh when you go in, but after a while it feels pleasant and the strange thing is that when you swim back the water feels warmer closer to the shore. The water in the bay is chrystal clear. A few years ago while swimming a seal popped up 1 meter from me. We looked at eachother and off he or she went. The story goes that some seals are selkies. When the selkie comes ashore she turns into a beautiful woman and when she picks up the skin she becomes a seal again. Perhaps this one was a Selkie, who knows..

Since I learned to swim I have always loved it. When I was a boy my father took me everymorning in the season to the pool. At 7 in the water, at 7.30 out of the water, no matter what kind of weather it was. Nice childhood memorie. But swimming in a swimming pool is not my thing anymore. Too many people and the smell of chloride turns me off.

But swimming here is the way I like it.
All it needs is a little walk among the lane going down to the sea. They placed a signpost: Rossadilisk Paradise. For me it is a Swimming Paradise.

Tomorrow they promised a nice and sunny day. If so, I might go twice.

About Dutch Fishermans Ganseys..and a bit More..

In my previous post I promised to write about the just released book about Dutch Fisherman's Ganseys. Written by Stella Ruhe . In Dutch the title is:  Visserstruien uit 40 Nederlandse vissersplaatsen. There is an English translation with the title:  Dutch traditional ganseys. Sweaters from 40 vilages. (I couln't find it on Amazon, but there are some book(web)shops in Holland who also deliver all around the world.) For many years I had on my bookshelve the only book on Dutch Fisherman's ganseys. Written in 1983 by Henriëtte van der Klift-Tellingen. The book is printed in black and white, has many pictures from beautifulganseys in it, and it tells the history behind them. It is a good book, but the new book is better and more interesting. First Time...

Yesterday was my birthday. I have turned 55. It was strange to wake up alone after an evening full of tears before the morning. No one next to me to give me a kiss and a present, as I was used over the last 30 years. First time... there have been many "First Times" over the last months.  First time going to a party alone..and first time coming home alone after that party... First time going on holiday alone..and first time coming home alone... First time cooking a meal for me alone..and eating it alone....  (to tell you the truth..I hate cooking at the moment..and I used to love it..) First time sleeping alone in our double bed... First time telling people that he had passed away...(that still happens..) First time going to the market and realizing that you don't need that amount of oranges anymore.. And there are more...many more First Times... Living alone after living together for so long will take a lot of time to get used to it.....
