Prototype Knittingbag...

This afternoon I went again to my studio to start making a knitting bag from old Dutch Postbags combined with Blue Print Fabric as lining. As always I start and at the end of the process I find out how it should have been done. F.e. I should have done the zippers first and not at a later stage. This is not something new to me...In the past I did find out about myself that I am a person who starts with something and during the process I learn because of making mistakes..I remember making my first outfits for a fashion-show at Art-school based on Medieval times... after bleaching, dyeing and embroidering 25 metres of fabric I made the mistake not turning the pattern so I ended up with 2 left front parts and 2 right back parts...Never made that mistake again...and the result of making new fabric was this.. So this afternoon..plenty of mistakes..I just discovered that because I placed the flap at last I did sew a pocket together from the lining.. Will fix that later or by making the same in another Postbag.. (guess what...... I even have a Chines one!!! So here are the pictures...

About Dutch Fishermans Ganseys..and a bit More..

In my previous post I promised to write about the just released book about Dutch Fisherman's Ganseys. Written by Stella Ruhe . In Dutch the title is:  Visserstruien uit 40 Nederlandse vissersplaatsen. There is an English translation with the title:  Dutch traditional ganseys. Sweaters from 40 vilages. (I couln't find it on Amazon, but there are some book(web)shops in Holland who also deliver all around the world.) For many years I had on my bookshelve the only book on Dutch Fisherman's ganseys. Written in 1983 by Henriëtte van der Klift-Tellingen. The book is printed in black and white, has many pictures from beautifulganseys in it, and it tells the history behind them. It is a good book, but the new book is better and more interesting. First Time...

Yesterday was my birthday. I have turned 55. It was strange to wake up alone after an evening full of tears before the morning. No one next to me to give me a kiss and a present, as I was used over the last 30 years. First time... there have been many "First Times" over the last months.  First time going to a party alone..and first time coming home alone after that party... First time going on holiday alone..and first time coming home alone... First time cooking a meal for me alone..and eating it alone....  (to tell you the truth..I hate cooking at the moment..and I used to love it..) First time sleeping alone in our double bed... First time telling people that he had passed away...(that still happens..) First time going to the market and realizing that you don't need that amount of oranges anymore.. And there are more...many more First Times... Living alone after living together for so long will take a lot of time to get used to it.....
