Title : Man and Woman at a spinning wheel. Artist : Pieter Pieterz. (Antwerp 1540 - Amsterdam 1603) Dating : 1560 - 1570 Immediately after last nights post a little discussion appeared here and on Facebook. It is always nice to get response on my writing.... The topic is about the -what I thought was- a drop-spindle on the Medieval picture.  Is it the bobbin from the spinning-wheel on the left of the painting..or is it a drop-spindle?? It definitely doesn't look like my Turkish Ashford spindle....that is for sure.. Here are some interesting points of view.. Spinning Hero Michael  wrote: Now, I thought I'd try to answer your spinning question. I think that we're looking at in the picture is a bobbin, not a drop spindle. If you look to the left , there appears to be a spinning wheel, so that makes me think that what she is holding in her left hand is a filled bobbin from that wheel.   Thomas  replied on my blog:  I think s...

Last week I decided that I wanted to go to Amsterdam for the day on Saturday. Almost a year ago I was there for the last time. It was about time to go I felt. During my life with Bram, we often went there. He has lived there many years and knew the city very well.  Thanks to him I also know it well. We just loved to got there.  When he was in good health, we used to go there at least once a Month. Saturdays filled with visits to a Museum, Art Galleries, Shopping, a nice lunch and coffee or tea at our favorite spots. Or waking up on Sunday-morning and deciding to go, because a day in Deventer would be boring, and there was a good exhibition to go in the Modern Art Museum. So a good reason to go, and off we went. I was just thinking that my knowledge of Art and my interest in it,has started in Amsterdam. In a way I am grown up in the World of Art there.  Don't know where it came from, because I am totally not brought up with Art. Guess a little fire had been...

Today I went to the graveyard to bring flowers. I usually go there twice a week.  A cycle-trip from 20 minutes.  It is a very calming and healing place to go. I go there to talk to him and to be silent with him. To think and to cry. Just to be with him. Sometimes the day starts well, but it can change in a second.  This morning I went to the market to buy flowers and vegetables. My favourite stall is from a Chinese family. You buy your veg and fruit and they always give you some extra for free. Some apples, a basket of strawberries...a melon.. The "mother" asked me: How are you and how is the other Mister? I answered that Bram passed away in April, and in a split second there was emotion on both sides. It usually happens once a week that I am asked how Bram is doing (last night too, while in the open air cinema on the square) and that I have to tell what has happened. it is very logical because we have been living togehter here in the centre all these years.
