Final Collection Day

Today was about the Presentation and judging from the Final Collections from our 4 year Course Fashion Couture...  Always such a great Day for me, and for my students and colleagues ofcourse.  I  love to hear my students talk about thier work, the choices they made...always interesting Next week onTuesday is the FashionShow where students will present their work. Artez FashionShow... Amazing!

Last night I visited the  Artez Graduation Fashionshow in Arnhem.  One word: Amazing!  Next to watching all collections passing by I had to give my opinion as member of judge for a competiton for "Arnhem's Newest Design Talent".  The so called: " Arnhemse Nieuwe" organised by O.P.A Not an easy task, but very exiting for me. The show was held in an empty building at a industrial park.  A great location and very welcoming. Inside was this scene wating... No glamour, but GREAT!! Info-paper on the chairs... The show started with the first year outfits based on the theme: " Protest" .  Very experimental to give them a different and personal view on garments. The second years came out with the theme "New Aristocracy". Fit for a Queen. The 3th years showed the " Collection Arnhem " .  This is a collection made together by all students from that year. A Strange Textile Find....

2 days ago I got -again- a beautiful gift  from a former student. Nahad was born in Afghanistan and came with her family to the Netherlands years ago as refugee. She has finished our fashion course some years ago. Her final collection was about eveningdresses made out of traditional blue  Bhurka's (I wrote about it in this blogpost).  Now a new collection designed by her is currently made by our 3th year students. Also made from Bhurka's but in different colours combined with other fabrics. When she left school I got a really beautiful  Pakol from her, made by the best Pakol maker in Kabul.  I always wonder what would happen if I would phone them up and tell them that the hat is very special to me.. But what is a Pakol ??
