For the Love of Textiles

That really is a long time ago I wrote an entry....No special reason for that..but now I am back again and I am not going to promise to write every week. Yesterday I went together with Evelien to the first Knitting and Crochet Day (the last one is not my cup of tea, I am a knitter after all)in Nieuwegein. It was really- in my opinion- a much better fair than the other craft fair. Plenty of nice stalls with gorgeous yarns, space enough, good catering and best of all: Good Company. Because I am buying my yarns only when I know what I want to knit with it I came home with some beautiful lace yarn from Madeline Tosh ... and the book Victorian Knitting Today with stunning examples. And that was not all, because Knitting friend Wendel gave me a beautiful goodie-bag ( design Orla Kieley ) filled with gorgeous yarns, a magazine and some roving and a beautiful postcard. Today is Grey and this is not my favourite time of the year. This grey light outside (this is the view from the window in my rather messy workroom) makes everything sort of pale. So the perfect day to stay inside -well, not really: we just had a coffee in Almen which we usual do on Sundays- to write some mails and to write a post here.In a way it is the perfect day today. Lots of things had happened over the last weeks after the holiday but one of the important one is that I will work all my hours in school starting from the 1th of February. It will be very busy with teaching at Medium and High level, but hopefully it will give me a good feeling that I am back in my work environment. My colleagues from Glasgow and Puchov with a group of students will arrive on the 1th of February for a few project days in our school. As promised I should write a post about my knitting adventures which I had the last summer-holiday in Shetland. On one of the first days (maybe it was the first day)I walked into Tesco and suddenly out of the blue I got a Big Hug and a Hey Jan...and there was Connie promoting salmon at the entrance of the supermarket. Connie used to work at Jamieson & Smith (The wool-brokers) but changed job. She is a half-Kiwi and half-Shetland girl and is now living in Lerwick for the time being before going back to New Zealand with her husband (who comes from Shetland ofcourse!!) She immediately told me that Jared Flood (yes: THE Brooklyntweed!)was coming to Shetland with another bunch of knitters and the Parents of Ravelry: Jess and Casey.
