For the Love of Textiles

I didn't wrote a blog entry for weeks now. Too much happening and not a reason to write. There were moments I felt too tired and the other time my choice was to sit in the sun. But now today is the perfect day to write. It's sunny but cold and sometimes it rains. I am now sitting in my rather "messy" workroom (no sorry, no pictures of that...) from which I say for months that I really should clean it up. Perhaps the week holiday in May could be an opportunity..but I am not promising anything. The last weeks have been quite hectic. Work is busy as always (my teaching at Saxion, Higher Textile Education did start again yesterday with lessons about Visual Merchandising in the first year: was Great!) but also in private life a lot of things happened in which we had to make a choice. Migraine .. every now and than I suffer from a Migraine attack. Last night one suddenly came up when a woke up at 4.30. It is not a good sign for me because usually it means that I haven't taken good care of myself in general. So I had to stay home today (sorry class) after I had taken 2 paracetamol's and a good and deep sleep I feel much better now. Guess sometimes my body reacts when it all becomes too much and than I really have to listen to it. I hadn't had one for a long time but it can hit me suddenly out of nowhere. For years ago it happened once during lessons and my students told me to go home because I looked terrible. Sleep and paracetamol helps me and after it I am really hungry and must eat some sweet things. So now I am fine but I am still thinking why it has happened. Guess it has to do that the life the both of us are having is dramatically changed. Last night I saw Bram climbing the stairs and it broke my heart because he was so tired and could hardly walk...

Today I went with 3 colleagues and about 50 students from Higher Textile Education by train to The Hague. The main reason was to visit the exhibition: Voici Paris! about the history of Haute Couture in the Gemeente museum . It is always a joy to go there. The museum is designed by Architect Berlage and is in my opinion a very good building for a museum.It doesn't have the darkness of other buildings from Berlage. It has a lightness and very open atmosphere and usually the exhibitions are very nice. So today it was about Haute Couture... The exhibition is designed by a famous Dutch stylist: Maarten Spruyt and he did a marvellous job. I have always admired "Haute Couture" ever since I was young. It has this combination of the work of the fashion-designer combined with the craftsmanship of all workers who work in a fashion-house. No one can work without each-other and together they can make the most wonderful outfits..Hours of work in one dress.. millions of paillet...
